❓ Frequently Asked Questions

💡 What is Wegovy used for?

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist used with diet and activity to reduce excess body weight long-term (adults and adolescents ≥12 with obesity; adults with overweight plus a weight-related condition). It’s also approved to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with established CV disease and obesity/overweight, and for treating MASH with moderate-to-advanced fibrosis in adults.

🗓️ How is it taken?

Once-weekly subcutaneous injection using a prefilled pen. Your clinician will guide a gradual dose escalation to improve tolerability.

➕ Can I use Wegovy with Ozempic®, Rybelsus®, or other GLP-1s?

No. Coadministration with other semaglutide-containing products or other GLP-1 receptor agonists is not recommended.

🫗 Will it affect my other medications?

Possibly. Wegovy slows stomach emptying, which can influence absorption of some oral medicines. Your clinician may monitor levels, effects, or timing of other meds. If you take insulin or sulfonylureas, your doses may need adjustment to avoid low blood sugar.

🩺 What should I know about surgery or procedures?

Rare cases of pulmonary aspiration have been reported with GLP-1 users undergoing anesthesia/deep sedation. Always tell your surgical/anesthesia team that you’re using Wegovy.

👶 Can I use Wegovy if pregnant or trying to conceive?

No for weight loss/CV risk reduction: discontinue as soon as pregnancy is recognized. If planning pregnancy, stop at least 2 months before. Discuss lactation with your clinician.

🫀 Does Wegovy help the heart?

Yes. It’s approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, or non-fatal stroke in adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity/overweight.

🆘 What warning signs require urgent attention?

Severe abdominal pain (± vomiting), signs of gallbladder issues (RUQ pain, fever, jaundice), fainting or severe dehydration, allergic reactions, sudden vision changes, suicidal thoughts, or sustained racing heartbeat.
